Another Disappointing Decision

We have just learned of another disappointing judicial decision, in which an Erie County judge ruled against two Sandusky parents seeking post-adoption assistance for their special needs daughters. On January 7, 2011 , Judge Tygh Tone ruled in favor of the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services, in an appeal filed by Paul and Julie Keech on behalf of their two daughters adopted through the Cuyahoga County Department of Human Services.

The story of this case and of this family is complicated and often convoluted. Like many others, the story involves legal and administrative nightmares, along with the ongoing day-to-day uncertainty of how to protect and care for their daughters.

Julie and Paul Keech are also participants in the Patchwork Promises Project, and in telling their story have also emphasized how extremely cooperative many agencies, particularly in Sandusky, have been in providing indispensable help and support for the family.

The Keech Family will be among the first featured in the Patchwork blog. The goal for all of our participating families is to have a place to publish, and discuss with other participants, their own family story. At minimum, we will begin by posting basic information about the individual members of the family, the family's history, as well as their challenges and successes.  In some cases, we will also publish relevent background information and related materials. In judicial or administrative cases, such as  Keech v. Ohio Department of Jobs & Family Services, we will also monitor the case and report developments.
